As you know, over the past months we worked behind-the-scenes to deliver the first Europeana thematic channel, which is all about music!

The Europeana Music Channel contains most of the material we were lucky enough to harvest from our valued partners. It is the biggest outcome of the Europeana Sounds project yet, showcasing western classical music as well as classical music from non-western cultures, traditional, folk and popular music.

The Europeana Music Channel combines the collections our project has gathered with material from all corners of Europe. The Channel ties these collections together and provides users a reliable, trustworthy database of musical content from Europe’s finest cultural institutions and a rich experience based on selected thematic content from the project partners.

We would like to thank all partners for helping gather all of the material and providing with their records. We could not have done this without them! In its current state, the Music Channel combines 98,125 items for people to enjoy, varying from music recordings, images of musical instruments and scanned sheet music to music history books/texts, etc.

This first release of the Music Channel is a test version, which has been moulded with extensive user research, technical design and development work from Europeana development team. This same team is currently working on perfecting and improving the Channel.

We’re excited to know what you think of our work so far and how you experience the many features, look and feel and contents! For that we will collect user feedback and input from August 2015 till January 2016. So when you visit the site you will at times be asked to answer questions or surveys that appear on screen. This testing period will allow gradually to improve the Channel that will be tailored, as much as possible, to your needs.

Navigate, experience and let us know your thoughts.
